Hello Everyone,
I am delighted to report that we will have a speaker this month who isn’t me! Our old friend, Mike Lykens, Portfolio Manager at Skurnik Wines, will be making a return visit to lead us in a tasting of unique German wines from two estates: Dautel, in Wurttemberg, and Vols, in the Saar. While the latter is known for Riesling, the former makes delicious wines from a number of different grapes, which is what we will be exploring with Mike’s help.
The wines for the evening include:
2020 Dautel Weissburgunder
2020 Dautel Riesling Besigheimer Wurmberg Trocken
2022 Dautel Spatburgunder
2020 Dautel Bonningheimer Sonnenberg Chardonnay
2018 Dautel Pinot Sekt
2022 Vols Ayler Kupp Riesling Kabinett
2022 Vols Ayler Kupp Riesling Spatlese
2021 Vols Ayler Kupp Riesling Spatlese II
The wines will be served with a three-course meal from a new location for us, Sang Tong Thai, which is known for fine Thai food, and located conveniently directly across Kings Highway from the building that houses Wanda BYOB, mid-way down Tanner Street. There is street parking on Tanner, and a public lot behind the restaurant accessed from Euclid Street, which is the cross street to Tanner at the light at the end of Tanner Street. This is a temporary change to accommodate our speaker and supplier, as Wanda is closed on Mondays.
